Chibi Maruko-chan Land Tickets

Chibi Maruko-chan is one of Japan’s most beloved anime characters, the cheeky primary schooler whose everyday adventures have run on television for over three decades, and her home town is real: Shimizu, in Shizuoka. Chibi Maruko-chan Land celebrates her there, inside the S-Pulse Dream Plaza complex by the port, with recreated sets and exhibits that drop fans straight into the world of the show.

Inside Maruko’s world

The indoor facility recreates the familiar settings of the series, from Maruko’s family home and classroom to the streetscapes of 1970s Shimizu the show lovingly depicts, with photo spots throughout and exhibits on the series and its creator, Momoko Sakura, herself a Shimizu local. It is compact, cheerful and aimed at fans and families rather than thrill seekers, and the gift shop’s exclusive character goods do brisk business with visitors from across Asia.

Around the Dream Plaza

The surrounding complex adds a ferris wheel, a sushi themed dining street trading on Shimizu’s port heritage, cinemas and bay views toward Mt. Fuji in clear weather, so the visit stretches easily into a half day by the harbour.

Getting there

Take the JR Tokaido Line to Shimizu Station, about ten minutes from Shizuoka Station, then ride the free shuttle bus or walk around twenty minutes to the waterfront Dream Plaza. Shizuoka itself sits on the shinkansen route between Tokyo and Nagoya, making Shimizu a workable stopover for fans.
