All Sanyo Shinkansen leave from Shin Osaka, a short subway ride from central Osaka. Trains arrive at Hakata.
The Sakura is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass. The Mizuho and Nozomi need a supplement.
The Mizuho and Sakura have fewer non reserved cars, so reserve ahead in peak season.
From Hakata the Kyushu Shinkansen continues south to Kumamoto and Kagoshima.
