The Crayon Shin-chan Adventure Park is the rowdiest corner of Nijigen no Mori, the anime theme park on Awaji Island, and it suits its mischievous star perfectly. Rather than screens and queues, the park is built around genuinely physical fun: ziplines over a lake, multi level rope courses and water cannon battles, all wrapped in the daft humour of Japan’s most famous five year old.
The signature Challenge ziplines send you flying over water on lines hundreds of metres long, while the giant three storey athletic structure packs dozens of obstacles ranging from toddler friendly to properly testing for adults. A water battle arena, themed play zones and plenty of photo spots with the Nohara family round it out. Height and age restrictions apply on the bigger elements, so mixed groups should check who can ride what.
This is an outdoor, active park, so closed shoes and clothes you can move in are essential, and gloves are recommended on the rope courses. Summer visits mean sunscreen and plenty of water; the island heat is real. Fans of the anime will catch jokes everywhere, but the athletic fun needs no background at all.
Awaji Island has no trains, so ride a highway bus from Kobe Sannomiya or Shin-Kobe across the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, with services stopping near Nijigen no Mori’s gates. Drivers exit the expressway at the northern end of the island; parking is plentiful.
Can adults do the courses? Absolutely, and the top level obstacles are aimed at them.
What if it rains? Heavy weather can suspend the high elements, so check conditions before travelling.
