Anjo, a farming city south of Nagoya, was once nicknamed the Denmark of Japan for its progressive agriculture, and Denpark is its cheerful tribute to that heritage: a Danish themed flower and food park where windmills rise over seasonal beds and the bakeries take their work seriously.

Flowers through the seasons

The park’s gardens roll through the year, tulips and spring bulbs, roses, summer annuals and autumn colour, arranged around Scandinavian style buildings, a large floral hall for all weather blooms and lawns made for picnics. It is planted generously rather than preciously, so there is colour on almost any visit, and the winter illumination season turns the grounds into a light garden after dark.

Sausages, bread and beer

Denpark’s other reputation is edible. An on site workshop produces German style sausages, the bakery’s bread queues out the door on weekends, and local craft beer rounds out a lunch that outclasses most theme park catering in Japan. Make your own sausage and pastry workshops run on a booking basis, and the farm shop sells Anjo produce worth carrying home.

Getting there

Take the JR Tokaido Line from Nagoya to Anjo Station, around twenty minutes, then a local bus or taxi to the park. Drivers exit the Tomei expressway nearby, and parking is plentiful; the park sits comfortably in a half day trip from Nagoya.
