JR Tower Observation Deck T38 Tickets

T38 is the observation floor at the top of the JR Tower, the tall slab of glass rising directly above Sapporo Station, and it holds the highest indoor viewpoint in the city. Where Sapporo’s other lookouts ask for a tram ride or a mountain climb, this one starts at the platforms of the busiest station in Hokkaido and ends, one lift ride later, thirty eight floors above them.

The city from above

The floor wraps the full circumference of the tower, so you can circle from the mountains on one side to Ishikari Bay on the other, with the rail lines threading away beneath you in long silver curves. Dusk is the prime slot, when the grid lights up block by block. The atmosphere stays quiet and unhurried, with seating along the glass, a small cafe bar, and a certain local fame attached to the gentlemen’s washroom, which faces floor to ceiling glass and the entire city.

Because it sits on top of the station and its shopping complexes, T38 fills a spare hour effortlessly, whether you are waiting for a train to Otaru or rounding off a day of sightseeing. Rail fans get particular value watching trains fan in and out of the station below.

Getting there

Enter from the JR Tower complex adjoining Sapporo Station’s south side, where a dedicated lift near the sixth floor entrance carries visitors to the observatory. Every JR line into the city and both ends of the subway system deliver you within a few minutes walk.
