Noria Ferris Wheel Sapporo

On the roof of the Norbesa building in Susukino, the Noria ferris wheel lifts you straight out of Sapporo’s liveliest entertainment district into the night sky. It is a short ride with a big payoff: the neon grid of the city spreading in every direction, and in winter, a blanket of white roofs glowing under the lights.

The ride

Noria’s gondolas rotate slowly from the rooftop, several storeys up before the wheel even starts, so the views arrive immediately. A full rotation gives you time to pick out Sapporo TV Tower, the mountains ringing the city and the bright river of Susukino’s streets directly below. Night is the obvious time to ride, and the wheel itself, lit and turning above the district, has become a Susukino landmark in its own right.

Built into a night out

Because the wheel sits on top of an entertainment complex in the middle of Susukino, it slots perfectly into an evening of ramen, bars and karaoke rather than demanding its own excursion. It is a favourite date spot for locals, and riding just after fresh snowfall is a quietly magical Sapporo experience.

Getting there

Norbesa is a few minutes on foot from Susukino Station on the Namboku subway line, one stop from Odori and two from Sapporo Station. Trams and taxis also pass constantly through the district.
