KidZania Tokyo is a scaled down city where children run the show. Kids dress in real uniforms and try their hand at dozens of jobs, from piloting a plane and fighting fires to making food, reading the news and working in a hospital, earning the park’s own currency as they go. It is consistently one of the most popular family attractions in Tokyo, and for good reason: children leave glowing with independence.
Entry is by session, and once inside, children choose activities and queue for them just like a real job hunt. Each activity runs around half an hour with real equipment and props sized for small hands, and the kidZos they earn can be spent or banked inside the city. Parents watch from the sidelines, which is half the fun. Popular jobs fill quickly, so agree on priorities with your kids before the doors open.
KidZania Tokyo is inside the LaLaport Toyosu shopping centre. Take the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line to Toyosu Station and it is a short walk, or ride the Yurikamome from Shimbashi if you are combining it with Odaiba. The shopping centre has plenty of dining for before and after sessions.
What ages does it suit? Activities are designed for roughly ages three to fifteen, with the sweet spot around primary school age.
Is English available? The experience runs mostly in Japanese, but staff are used to overseas visitors and some programs offer English support, so confident kids do fine either way.
Do adults do the activities? No, the jobs are strictly for the kids, and adults observe from outside each pavilion.
