That is the pitch at Nijigen no Mori on Awaji Island, where the Godzilla Interception Operation casts visitors as recruits in a disaster response force tasked with containing the King of the Monsters, and the monster in question is jaw droppingly big.

Into the jaws

The experience mixes a mission briefing style backstory with the main event: a zipline run that sends you flying at the enormous Godzilla head and straight through its open mouth, plus a second line for the less committed. A shooting game pits teams against escaping Godzilla cells, and a museum area covers the monster’s decades of film history with props and exhibits that reward longtime fans. The photo opportunities are, as you would expect, ridiculous in the best way.

Planning the day

The Godzilla attraction is one of several separately themed zones within the wider Nijigen no Mori park, including the Naruto area, so check what your ticket covers and consider combining zones for a full day on the island. Outdoor activity and some walking between areas are part of the deal, so dress accordingly.

Getting there

Awaji Island is reached by highway bus from Kobe Sannomiya or Maiko across the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, with services stopping near the park in the island’s north. Drivers from Osaka or Kobe can be at the gates within about an hour and a half via the expressway.
