KITSUNE is Kyoto’s best known nightclub, a multi level venue in the Kiyamachi nightlife strip that gives the old capital a rare dose of big city club energy. Pre arranged entry tickets for foreign visitors smooth the door process, which makes it an easy option if you want one proper night out between the temples.

The scene inside

The club leans into its fox spirit theming with torii red accents and Japanese motifs threaded through otherwise standard big room design. Music runs to EDM, hip hop and chart remixes, and the crowd is young, mixing Kyoto students, travellers and weekenders from Osaka. Multiple bars keep queues tolerable, and the main floor fills from late evening with the peak well after midnight.

Know before you go

Entry is strictly for adults and age checks are firm, so bring your passport. The usual club dress standards apply, with sportswear and sandals refused. Kiyamachi’s lanes are lively but generally safe; as in any nightlife district, arrange your route home in advance because trains stop around midnight and Kyoto taxis get scarce in the small hours on weekends.

Getting there

The club sits in the Kiyamachi area near the Takase canal, a few minutes on foot from Kyoto Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Line and about ten from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line. From Kyoto Station, the Karasuma subway to Shijo then a short walk east works well.

Frequently asked questions
