teamLab Biovortex is Kyoto’s entry in the teamLab universe, and it arrived swinging: opened in October 2025, ten minutes on foot from Kyoto Station, it is the collective’s largest museum in Japan at roughly 10,000 square metres, with more than 50 works including pieces shown nowhere else. If Planets is water and Borderless is wandering, Biovortex is scale.

What it is like inside

Four floors of rooms that respond to movement, light that behaves like living matter, and several of the massive-scale installations teamLab could not fit anywhere else. It is fully indoors, unhurried and camera-friendly. Allow two to three hours, and expect the same advice as its Tokyo siblings: weekday mornings are calm, weekends and evenings book out.

Tickets

Entry is by dated, timed ticket bought in advance, with pricing that moves by date and slot. Book once your Kyoto dates are fixed, especially around blossom and autumn leaf season when the whole city is at capacity. E-tickets come as QR codes, no collection needed.

Getting there

It is a ten minute walk southwest of Kyoto Station, which makes it the easiest teamLab in the country to reach: step off the Shinkansen, drop bags in a locker, and walk over. It slots neatly into an arrival or departure day when temple-legs have given out.

Frequently asked questions

Is it different enough from the Tokyo museums? Yes. Much of the collection is new or exclusive, and the scale is a step up.

Kids? Welcome and well catered for, as at all teamLab sites.

How long? Two to three hours comfortably.
