Sky Promenade Outdoor Observatory Admission in Nagoya

Sky Promenade crowns Midland Square, the polished tower opposite Nagoya Station, and it does observation decks differently: the top floors are open to the sky. Instead of looking through tinted glass, you walk a spiralling outdoor corridor with the wind in your hair and Nagoya unrolled a couple of hundred metres below, which turns a familiar city view into something physical.

Walking the open deck

The promenade wraps the summit of the tower across its highest floors, with the city grid, the station towers and, in clear weather, distant mountains around the horizon. Evening is the crowd favourite, when mist machines and lighting give the walkway a slightly dreamlike atmosphere and the trains below become ribbons of light. Because it is genuinely outdoors, weather matters: a crisp winter evening beats a hazy summer afternoon, and rain can close the deck.

Around Midland Square

The tower’s lower floors hold some of Nagoya’s glossiest shopping and restaurant floors with views of their own, so the visit extends naturally into dinner. For travellers with a spare hour before a shinkansen, there are few better uses of it, since you are already at the station district.

Getting there

Midland Square faces the Sakura-dori exit of Nagoya Station, across the road from the JR towers, with underground passages connecting in poor weather. Lifts from the ground floor lead to the observatory entrance on the upper levels. Every JR, Meitetsu, Kintetsu and subway line through Nagoya Station puts you within a five minute walk.
