Moominvalley Park Ticket in Hanno

Moominvalley Park brings Tove Jansson’s beloved Moomins to the wooded shore of Lake Miyazawa in Hanno, Saitama, and the setting is the masterstroke. The Finnish story world of forests and water maps uncannily well onto this quiet corner an hour from Tokyo, and the park leans into atmosphere over thrill rides, all pale timber, lakeside paths and gentle storytelling.

Inside the valley

The park recreates the world of the books, with Moominhouse standing by the lake, theatrical shows featuring the characters, exhibition spaces devoted to Jansson’s art and life, and playgrounds threaded through the trees. It rewards wandering rather than rushing, and fans of the gentle, melancholy tone of the original stories will find the park unusually faithful to it. The adjacent Metsa Village area, with Nordic style shops and lakeside dining, is free to enter and rounds out the day.

Who will love it

Moomin devotees, families with younger children, and anyone drawn to Scandinavian calm over theme park noise. Teenagers chasing coasters will be restless. Photographers should stay toward late afternoon, when low light comes across the lake and the crowds thin.

Getting there

Take the Seibu Ikebukuro Line from Ikebukuro to Hanno Station, around fifty minutes on rapid services, then a direct local bus to Metsa. The bus ride takes about fifteen minutes and drops you at the lakeside entrance. Drivers will find the park signposted off the roads north of Hanno with paid parking on site.
