Small Worlds Tokyo in Ariake is Asia’s largest miniature museum: vast 1:80 dioramas of a space centre that launches rockets, an Evangelion hangar, Sailor Moon’s Azabu-Juban and idealised world cities, all animated with day-night cycles and thousands of moving pieces. What makes it work

The animation: trains run, aircraft taxi, the rocket launches on schedule, and tiny stories hide in every block. The resident program can even 3D-scan you into a figurine who lives in the exhibit. Ninety minutes to two hours suits most visits.

Getting there

Ariake-Tennis-no-mori on the Yurikamome or Kokusai-Tenjijo on the Rinkai Line, in the Odaiba orbit, stacking well with the bay-side attractions.
