Sunshine 60 Observatory Tenbou Park Tickets

Sunshine 60 was once the tallest building in Asia, and its top floor observatory has been reinvented as Tenbou Park, a lookout landscaped with artificial lawns, greenery and lounging space sixty floors above Ikebukuro. The idea is a park in the sky, somewhere to sprawl with a coffee while Tokyo runs to the horizon, and it gives the classic observation deck a far more relaxed personality.

A lookout you can lie down in

Floor to ceiling windows wrap the floor, with views across the endless spread of the city toward Shinjuku’s towers, and to Fuji on clear winter days. Between the windows, the lawn areas, swings and cafe seating invite you to stay a while rather than circle once and leave, and the atmosphere skews local, with couples and families treating it exactly like a park. Sunset into early evening is the prime window, when the city lights come up while you are settled in.

The observatory tops the Sunshine City complex, which also houses an aquarium, a planetarium, a Pokemon Center and floors of shopping and dining, so a visit expands easily into a half day, particularly with kids or in poor weather.

Getting there

Sunshine City is about ten minutes on foot from the east exit of Ikebukuro Station via Sunshine 60 Street, with Higashi-Ikebukuro Station on the Yurakucho Line closer still. Lifts within the complex carry you to the observatory entrance.
