teamLab Planets in Toyosu is the barefoot one. You wade through knee-deep water among digital koi, sink into cushioned infinity rooms and wander a floating flower garden, with the artworks responding to you as you move. It is immersive in the literal sense, and it has become one of the most booked experiences in all of Japan.

Booking is not optional

There is no ticket counter culture here: entry is by timed slot and popular times sell out two to three weeks ahead, with weekends and evenings first to go. Book as soon as your Tokyo dates are set. Sessions run to a timed entry but once inside you can stay as long as you like, and 90 minutes to two hours is typical.

What to know before you go

  • You will be barefoot for much of it and some water reaches your knees. Wear pants you can roll up, or use the free shorts they lend.
  • Mirror floors mean skirts are a poor choice.
  • Lockers handle shoes and bags, and towels are provided.
  • Phones are welcome and the photos are extraordinary. Early morning slots are quietest for clean shots.

Getting there

Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome line is next door, one stop from Toyosu, and the walk from Toyosu Station itself is about ten minutes. Coming from Tokyo Station, allow 25 to 30 minutes. Pair it with the Toyosu fish market or an evening in Ginza on the way back.

Frequently asked questions

Planets or Borderless? Planets is the water one, more physical and easier to do in a set time. Borderless in Azabudai Hills is larger and more maze-like. Art lovers do both.

Is it good with kids? Very. The water areas and flower garden land brilliantly with children.

Can I rebook if it rains? It is fully indoors, so weather does not matter.
