Marine World Uminonakamichi faces Fukuoka across Hakata Bay, a curved-glass aquarium themed around the seas of Kyushu, with a dolphin and sea lion show whose backdrop is the actual bay through a vast window. It anchors the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, one of Fukuoka’s best family days out.
The Kyushu focus gives it character: local sardine tornadoes, a serious shark hall and the outdoor marine mammal pools. Pair it with the surrounding park’s flower fields, playgrounds and rental bikes and you have a full day without trying.
The fun way is the ferry from Hakata Bayside Place, about 20 minutes across the bay. By rail, take the JR Kagoshima Line to Kashii and change for Uminonakamichi Station, covered by the JR Pass.
How long? Two hours for the aquarium, a day with the park.
Show times? Several daily; check the schedule as you enter and build around it.
