Fuji-Q Highland is Japan’s coaster park, sitting at the foot of Mt Fuji with the mountain looming over every ride photo you will ever take there. Its headliners are world-class: Fujiyama, the classic king; Do-Dodonpa’s successors in raw acceleration; Eejanaika, a 4th-dimension coaster that flips you independently of the track; and Takabisha, one of the steepest drops anywhere.

Which ticket to buy

The 1-Day Free Pass covering unlimited rides is the standard buy and almost always beats pay-per-ride for anyone doing more than three coasters. An afternoon pass from 2pm suits a half day, and Thomas Land has its own family pass for the little-kid corner of the park. On busy days, paid priority tickets for individual headline coasters are worth considering, as the big four each pull long queues.

The Fuji factor

Clear mornings give the best mountain views, and winter air is the most reliable for them. Some coasters pause in high winds or rain, so a stable forecast matters more here than at most parks. If clouds roll in, the indoor attractions and Thomas Land keep a family day alive.

Getting there by train

Fujikyu Highland Station is on the Fujikyuko Line, immediately beside the gates. From Tokyo, take the JR Chuo Line limited express to Otsuki, then the Fujikyuko Line down toward Kawaguchiko, about two and a half hours all up, or ride one of the direct Fuji Excursion services from Shinjuku. It pairs naturally with a Kawaguchiko overnight for the classic lake-and-mountain morning.
